RAMBAN, Nov 26: A 13-year-old girl was forcibly married to a 40-year-old man and allegedly raped by him, following which the accused and his four accomplices including father of the girl were arrested in this connection by Chanderkote police.
As per police sources, a man identified as Romesh Lal (40), son of Ram Saran of Phalian Mandal, Jammu got himself married to 13-year-old daughter of Romesh Kumar, son of Anant Ram, a resident of Balhote, Ramban in convince with Thakroo, son of Santoo, his son Bittu and one other person namely Krishan Chand, son of Ram Singh, trio residents of Paprian Chanderkote.
The girl and the groom started living in Jammu. Later, the girl managed to escape and reported to police station Chanderkote that five persons including his father married her with a 40-year-old man without her will and wish.
After verifying the facts, five persons including groom and father of the minor girl involved in performing child marriage were arrested. The groom was booked in rape case and was sent to District Jail Udhampur.
A case under FIR Number 38/15 under Section 376 RPC and 3/4 Infant Marriage Prevention Act has been registered at Chanderkote police station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Chanderkote police station Inspector Manzoor Ahmed Kohli made the arrest under the supervision of Additional SP Arun Kumar and SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar.
