SRINAGAR, Mar 19: A 6-year-old-girl had been allegedly given expired injections for the last more than 4 days after she was admitted to District Hospital Shopian for treatment.
Bazila Iqbal (6) daughter of Muhammad Iqbal Kataria, a resident of Devipora Shopian in South Kashmir was taken to the hospital four days ago after she had a fever and later was diagnosed with severe pneumonia and her treatment was started.
Her father said that when he happened to have a look at the injection (Monocef) and found it to have the expiry date of October 2020, he brought the issue to the notice of the health officials, but of no avail.
“She was administered 12 such injections so far and her condition is the same as she has not improved and when I brought it to the notice of the hospital staff and others, they did not bother to do anything,” Iqbal said.
While the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Shopian has seized the medicines, an inquiry has been ordered into the matter by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Shopian.
“I have asked the MS to do the needful in this regard and a team has been constituted which will submit a factual report by tomorrow. We have to see where have the injections come from; whosoever is found involved will be dealt with sternly,” Dr Ramesh Kumar Malla, CMO Shopian told Excelsior.
Father of Bazila, on the other side has appealed to the District Magistrate Shopian to intervene in the matter and deliver justice.
