SRINAGAR, Aug 8: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Satish Sharma, today warned that anyone found “risking people’s lives” by supplying adulterated consumables will face stringent action.
Speaking to reporters after visiting several locations, including the FCI go-down here, Sharma said samples of seized meat have been sent to three laboratories for analysis. “Those involved will not be spared,” he asserted.
“Suppliers and local accomplices will face legal action. It is the Government’s duty to protect public health,” the Minister added.
The surprise inspections, he said, were prompted by a circulating video showing poor-quality rice from the Shilwat area.
“The quality shown in the video was unacceptable. Consequently, we conducted inspections in Srinagar to assess the rice being distributed to the public,” Sharma said.
Regarding the truck featured in the video, officials informed the Minister that it had been seized.
“I am told this truck was not yet part of the Public Distribution System (PDS) and had not been received by the department,” he said.
He further explained that once rice consignments come into Government custody, teams conduct thorough checks before allowing them to proceed.
“Certain issues have been identified here as well and these will be rectified.”
Sharma said that the Government will ensure that only the best quality rice reaches consumers, while those found involved in supplying the substandard material will be taken to task.
“Complaints will be taken seriously, and those who endanger public health will be dealt with strictly,” the Minister emphasized.
Sharma stated that seized meat samples have been dispatched to three laboratories for thorough analysis as part of intensified efforts to tackle food adulteration.
He stressed that stringent action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
