Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary today said right kind of training to police personnel is a must and it should be in sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Smart police” considering the ever changing nature of crime in today’s world.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the 34th National Symposium of Heads of Police Training here. Mr Chaudhary said,’’Police training should be in sync with PM Modi’s vision of “SMART’ police” (S-Sensitive and S trict; M-Modern with Mobility; A- Alert and Accountable; R- Reliable and Responsive; T- Trained and Techno-savvy) Police while tackling cyber crimes and technology related crimes in the country.
Laying emphasis on computer related training for the personnel, he said training too should be imparted in dealing with naxalism and terrorism and for that modernisation of police force is a must. The Minister said good law and order in the country provides a favourable environment for investment resulting into development in the country which is the mission of the force.
He also called upon the police personnel to be sensitive to public grievances and give people a patient hearing. Navneet Rajan Wasan, DG, the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), also putting forth his suggestions, said giving right training to right kind of people will help in execution of plethora of responsbilities like insurgency, left wing extremism among others.
The peculiarity of this year’s symposium was to bring different entities on one platform to give valuable suggestions to improve police training in the country , he added. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had last year announced Home Minister’s Medal for excellence in Police Training and Home Minister trophy for best training institutions.
In this regard, he further informed that 167 Home Minister’s medals in excellence in police training will be awarded each year to the best trainer/faculty of police training institution of the country along with scroll and cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.
The awards will be distributed on 67th Republic day i e on 26th January, 2016, he added. During the inaugural session, Mr Chaudhary also gave away the President Police medals for distinguished services and Police medals for Meritorious service awarded to the officers of BPR&D from Republic day, 2014 onwards.
