KATHUA, Nov 13: The Mining Department in Kathua has taken action against 585 vehicles in the district for illegal mining and transportation of construction material and realized Rs 2,40,10,483 as penalty from April this year to November this year.
This was stated by officials of District Mining Kathua. They said under the directions of DC Kathua Rajesh Sharma, the Mining Department is taking strict and effective measures against illegal mining. According to departmental data, under the supervision of District Mining Officer (DMO) Vishal Dogra, complaints related to illegal mining are being addressed around the clock.
The Department’s proactive approach is reflected in the fines collected, which have reached record levels this year. In the financial year 2024-25, action was taken against 269 vehicles, resulting in fines amounting to ?2,49,84,302.
It said between April 2025 and November 2025 alone, the Mining Department took action against 585 vehicles involved in illegal mining, recovering ?2,40,10,483 in fines. These figures represent a significant increase compared to previous years and demonstrate the Department’s strict monitoring and commitment.
DMO Vishal Dogra stated, “Illegal mining will not be tolerated under any circumstances. The Department is continuously monitoring activities, and immediate action is taken as soon as a complaint is received. Strict punitive measures against vehicles involved in illegal mining will continue, and this campaign will persist without interruption.”
