Srinagar, Mar 4: Militants this evening hurled a grenade towards the house of a retired Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir Police (IGP) in Srinagar. However, he escaped unhurt.
Police sources said that militants this evening hurled a grenade towards the house of a retired IGP, Zahoor Chasti in Lal Bazar area of Srinagar.
The grenade, however, missed the intended target and exploded in the compound of his neighbour Qaisar Jamshed. Window panes of the house of Jamshed and a car was damaged in the attack.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot to assess the situation as the grenade caused panic. The IGP Chesti retired last year and was inside the house when the attack took place.
The attack comes two days after two Police men were killed at point blank range by militants in the North Kashmir township of Handwara.
The security forces are on high alert in Srinagar and other major towns of Kashmir valley following apprehensions that militants might carry out strikes.
It may be mentioned here that last month the militant organizations had threatened to carry out attacks to take revenge of execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
