Srinagar, May 22: Four militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) who were killed as Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) two days ago were highly trained Fidayeen, who were tasked to carry out major strike in Kashmir.
Army sources said that four killed LeT militants were highly trained and were tasked to carry out a major Fidayeen strike in Kashmir. They said that the amount of arms and ammunition which was recovered from them indicated their plan of carrying out the major strike.
The recoveries include four AK 47 rifles and AK 47 ammunition, UBGL grenades, hand grenades, GPS, wireless sets, Pakistan made medicine, dry fruits, binoculars, wire cutters and matrix sheets.
The arms and ammunition was recovered from the killed militants against whom Army operation continued for 36 hours in Nowgam sector of the LoC after troops deployed at forward posts noticed their movement.
Three Army men Havaldar Damar Bahadur, Havaldar Girish Gurung and Rifleman Robin Sharma of 4/1 GR were killed during the operation in the gun battle. And Army today paid tributes to these soldiers at Chinar Corps headquarters and the function was attended by top officials from Civil Administration and other security forces operating in the Valley.
In the meantime, massive Amy operation in Macchil sector of North Kashmir continued today. The operation was launched after Army received inputs that a group of highly trained militants had managed to infiltrate into the area. The troops are conducting searches in vast forest areas in the sector for last two days. However, so far no traces of these infiltrated militants was found.
And in Srinagar, police arrested a man after a grenade was found in his possession yesterday at Bemina area.
Police during routine checking along Bemina Crossing, stopped a man identified as Gazanfar Hajam of Bonpora, Nowgam for frisking. “During frisking, a grenade was found from his possession. He was immediately taken into custody and is being questioned,” the sources said.
