Srinagar, Jan 18: Militants today opened fire on a Road Opening Party (ROP) of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Hyderpora Bypass Srinagar.
Sources said militants opened fire in Hyderpora bypass area when an ROP of CRPF was passing the area. Sources said that militants were travelling in a Maruti car. Police, army and CRPF cordoned off adjacent localities to nab the militants responsible for the firing. However, no one was arrested.
In the meantime, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan shot himself dead during the rehearsal parade in the frontier district of Kupwara.
Sources said that Constable Syed Abdul Majeed (Belt no. 943323655) of CRPF 162 battalion this morning shot himself dead with his carbine rifle after his officer allegedly abused and misbehaved with him during the rehearsal parade at the DPL, Kupwara. A resident of Bandra district in Utter Pradesh, Syed collapsed. He was removed to hospital for treatment. He died at SKIMS hospital in Srinagar.
And an army jawan died of heart attack in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Constable Avtar Singh of 53 RRC regiment suffered cardiac arrest during duty at Hyderbeigh camp at Pattan in Baramulla district. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
