JAMMU, Dec 18: Demanding permanent rehabilitation in their ancestral places in Kashmir, Avtar Krishan Koul a migrant from Verinag township in South Kashmir is sitting on a dharna in front of Relief Organisation here since December 6.
Koul, while talking to this reporter took the Government to task for its failure in addressing the genuine return and rehabilitation issue of Kashmiri Pandits leading an exiled life at Jammu and other parts of the country for last 36 years.
Koul, who has placed his demands on handwritten and typed posters at his dharna site said that he will continue protest till the all genuine demands of exiled Pandits are met. He alleged that successive Governments at Centre and in J&K betrayed the community through false claims and assurances but failed to take any concrete step on the community’s honourable and dignified return and rehabilitation in their ancestral places in Valley.
The posters highlighting the plight of the exiled Pandits demanded removal of encroachments from Pandits land and other property besides their religious places in Valley, creation of employment avenues for displaced people in Kashmir and compensation to overaged displaced youth and security of religious places as well as package employees and hike in relief.
