MIER organizes Adolescent Education Programme

JAMMU, Feb 13: A six day Adolescent Education Programme was conducted by Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies MIER College of Education.
The focus of the programme was to generate awareness among the adolescents on various challenges and provided suggestions and strategies to face the complexities of life with confidence, maturity, and self-esteem.
The target group of the programme was students of Class VIII of Model Academy School. The programme was held from February 9 to February 13, 2015.
It was divided into six modules namely Introduction to Adolescence as a concept, Stages of Adolescence; Life skills and Decision making; Assertiveness; Chance at buying happiness; Adolescent Health; Stress and its impact.
The resource persons for the various modules were Angela Gadroo, Assistant Professor, MIER College of Education; Auditi Malhotra, Assistant Professor, MIER College of Education; Jasleen Mohial, Coordinator Model Academy; Bharti, Teacher Model Academy; Prince, Teacher Model Academy and Monika Rathore, Coordinator CWS.
The resource persons oriented the adolescents on the key issues faced by them during this crucial phase of their life and emphasized that adolescence is not just physical growth it is also the emotional, social and mental growth of an individual.
The students very keenly participated in all the sessions. A “Question Box” activity was introduced for student queries and a follow up session will be organized soon to answer the student’s queries by the resource persons.
The programme was educative and informative for the adolescents who also enjoyed the sessions through role plays, PowerPoint presentations and video clippings.
A wall magazine was also displayed by CWS on the theme “Adolescent Girls: The Future of the Society.”
Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER lauded the efforts of the Centre for Women Studies (CWS) which has taken up this initiative of providing orientation to the adolescents which would go a long way in helping them deal with this delicate phase of their life. Rupa Gupta, Management Representative, Model Academy also appreciated the efforts of CWS in guiding the students of Model Academy in dealing with the stress and strife of adolescent period.
The programme was planned and executed by the Coordinator CWS, Monika Rathore.
