MeT forecasts snowfall

SRINAGAR, Jan 15: The Weatherman today forecasted light snowfall over the hills of Kashmir in the next 24 hours.
The MeT office said that light snowfall is likely to occur at isolated higher reaches tonight and early morning on January 16.

It said that another spell of light snowfall is expected at isolated to scattered locations on January 20 and 21. The MeT has predicted light rain in the plains of Jammu and snowfall at scattered to fairly widespread locations in the Kashmir valley on January 22.
Meanwhile, there was no improvement in cold weather conditions as night temperature again plummeted across the region.
Night temperature in Srinagar plummeted further last night with the city recording a low of minus 4.8 degree Celsius against minus 4.2 degree Celsius the previous day. It was 2.8 degree Celsius below normal for the city during this period.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of minus 5.4 degree Celsius, 2.4 degree Celsius below normal. Pahalgam registered a minimum of minus 8.8 degree Celsius, 2.5 degree Celsius below normal. Kupwara recorded a minimum of minus 4.7 degree Celsius, 2.2 degree Celsius below normal. Kokernag recorded a minimum of minus 4.6 degree Celsius, 1.4 degree Celsius below normal. Gulmarg registered a minimum of minus 7.4 degree Celsius, 0.4 degree Celsius below normal.
The day temperatures increased across the region with Srinagar recording a maximum temperature of 11.0 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam recorded 7.5 degree Celsius while Qazigund recorded a day temperature of 10.8 degree Celsius. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 11.3 degree Celsius while Kokernag recorded a maximum temperature of 7.6 degree Celsius.
