LEH, June 10: Raising their strong objection over trade fair organized here by a Jammu based company, the local Merchant Association today observed complete bandh.
The Band call supported by the religious organization as well as restaurant association today saw a huge impact on visiting tourists with common people facing difficulties to get essential commodities.
Expressing their strong resentment over district administration for permitting such trade fare exhibition in Leh, the merchant association said that Leh with a limited working season can’t be compare with another parts of the country and such trade fare is causing huge loss to local merchants.
Talking to media, president, Merchant Association, Hajji Riyaz Ahmed, said that, “We have no problems with non-local doing business in Leh and 99% of the business community in Leh are non-local and we have no problem with them but such trade fare exhibition coming for short periods during summers affect our short business season and that’s why we have objection”.
He said it is strange that District Magistrate had sidelined the interest of local by permitting to put such stall that also on the sports ground and appealed the Chief Minister to intervene into the matter to protect the interest of local.
Meanwhile, the association members met CEC, Dr Sonam Dawa, with the request to stop the exhibition immediately, who has assured us take up the matter with Divisional Commissioner.
The association said if the exhibition is not removed by tomorrow, their protest will continue and consumers including tourist have to face more hardships. Another members added that Leh DM has allowed to use them the Sport Ground here for such trade fare but if we go to Jammu will the Jammu DM will allow us to put such install at Bakshi Stadium asked the anguish member.
