Menstrual Health Day observed at Kot Bhalwal

JAMMU, May 28: A special awareness programme was held today at Kot Bhalwal to mark Menstrual Health Day, aiming to promote menstrual hygiene and break the stigma surrounding menstruation among women and adolescent girls in rural areas.
The event, which witnessed the participation of over 300 rural women and girls, was organized under the guidance of Director Health Services Jammu Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar and Chief Medical Officer Dr Harbaksh Singh, and supervised by Dr Shabnam, Dr Kamal (Gynaecologist), and renowned social reformer Dr Navneet Kaur.
Dr Navneet Kaur—founder chairperson of NGO SUPPORT and president of Rotary Club Jammu Bahu—delivered a keynote address emphasizing the importance of menstrual hygiene, awareness of common menstrual disorders, and the urgent need to end social taboos associated with menstruation. She underscored the role of education and access to affordable, hygienic menstrual products in safeguarding women’s reproductive health and dignity.
Sanitary napkins were distributed among participants with support from Jan Aushadhi, reinforcing the commitment to making menstrual care accessible and affordable. The initiative also received backing from DDC Samba Sarabjeet Singh Johal, Rotary Club Jammu Bahu, ISBTI, and NGO SUPPORT.
The programme concluded with a call for sustained community-level engagement to ensure menstrual health awareness becomes an integral part of rural healthcare outreach, ultimately contributing to a healthier and more empowered society.
