MENDHAR, May 25: A large number of people from border town Mendhar and adjoining villages, facing acute shortage of drinking water, held protest demonstration at Shahidi Yadgar in the town here today.
The people of this area are facing acute shortage of water due to several defunct water supply schemes. The inhabitants of different villages of Mendhar Sub Division have been left hapless despite commissioning of many water schemes in the area. But it is unfortunate that most of them are lying defunct.
A scheme was developed to put to an end the water shortage in these villages, but the gravity pumping scheme remained out-of-order for the past few months, resulting in an acute water crisis, they alleged.
The villagers during massive protest, raised slogans against Government and concerned Public Health Engineering department officers for poor supply of drinking water. A villager said, though water pipelines have been laid in the villages but these pipes often remain dry.
Meanwhile, a deputation led by Majeed Choudahry later met the SDM Mendhar Dr Tanveer Khan and highlighted the issue of shortage of drinking water. SDM directed the PHE Department to redress the grievances of the people at the earliest. He also summoned the AEE concerned to his office and directed to improve the supply position in the area.
