Mendhar residents protest, seek probe into placement of AWWs

POONCH, July 30: With only a day left of her service, outgoing CDPO Mendhar has come under serious allegations from the Mendhar residents over the setup of new Anganwadi centres in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district, as many people held protest against the bungling in Anganwadi Workers’ selection process .
The people came out on the road and moved to the office of CDPO Mendhar and held strong protest. They were demanding probe by the deputy Commissioner in the selection process. They alleged that Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Mendhar along with Programme Officer (PO) Poonch of nepotism and favouritism while preparing list for the selection of 13 Anganwadi Workers and Helpers.
Locals said that the advertisement for the establishment of 13 new Anganwadi Centres was issued in 2015. The people applied during that time. And now after lapse of over four years, the list was released for 9 AWWs only and four others were engaged in back door. All the centres have been either allotted to blue-eyed people.
They said a delegation had met Deputy Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav for time back for his intervention. “We brought the issue into the notice of Deputy Commissioner who has directed that no nutrition be delivered to any of these new centres, but his directions were not taken seriously,” they said.
While the superannuation party was going on in the office of CDPO alongside other officials, the people with black flags were protesting against the CDPO and Project Officer outside the said office.
