UDHAMPUR, Jan 11: Seeking enactment of appropriate legislation to protect the interests of the educated unemployed youth as well as the poor farmers and land owners in J&K, Panthers Party today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Deputy Commissioner Udhampur.
The memorandum, containing signature of ten thousand people under the leadership of Balwant Singh Mankotia, former MLA & State president JKNPP, also demands restoration of internet services in J&K, particularly in Jammu, which is completely peaceful.
The signature campaign was started at 10 am and concluded at 12 ‘O’ Clock, during which more than ten thousand people put their signature on memorandum after participation in peaceful protest march, which culminated in front of DC’s office Udhampur.
While addressing the gathering, Mankotia said that the civil society has bonafide apprehensions which need to be addressed in the larger interests of the general masses. “Maharaja Hari Singh had enacted State Subject laws so as to give protection to the poor farmers of the State from being robbed of their land by powerful land mafia from outside the State . The J&K laws had further restricted the employment of outsiders in the State of J&K so that the local youth alone could be eligible for jobs created in the State. The people of the State had been the beneficiaries of these provisions which however have come to end with the passing of J&K Re-organization Act,” he said.
Mankotia further said that if the outsiders are allowed to apply for the already negligible jobs in J&K, the local educated youth shall be the biggest sufferers. “The concern of the local unemployed youth is most genuine and the Domicile law therefore needs to be enacted for security of job and properties of J&K people,” he stressed.
Other who joined the signature campaign, included the members of Bopar Mandal Udhampur, Lawyers Association, Transport Union, Rehri & Farhi Union, Furit & Vegetable Association, BDC Chairmen of different Blocks, Panch, Sarpanch & Municipal Councillors.
