‘Memna’ staged in Drama Festival

UDHAMPUR, June 21: On the 3rd day of District Drama Festival, Reasi being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages at NHPC Auditorium, Jyotipuram, a Dogri Play ‘Memna’ was presented by Dogri Sahitya Mandal,Ramnagar under the Direction of Jagdeep Dubey, a renowned Theatre Director and artist from Udhampur.
The Play ‘Memna’ is a symbolic exploitation of a person by another person which is going on since times immemorial. In this Play, real portrait of the society has been described by the playwright through the characters of the Bhedia(Wolf) and the Memna( Lamb) where the Bhedia adopts every trick to eat the Memna. Thus, it is a struggle between the powerful and the innocents. And the question is when this exploitation will come to an end.
The playwright Jagdeep Dubey, who also is the Director of the play, portraited the theme regarding exploitation of man to man and leaves an impact over the audience to think about the overall downfall of human character. This play also depicts dramatically the materialistic approach of human being and lack of respect of old rich Indian traditions and values which are instrumental in building human character, brotherhood and a healthy society.
The artists who performed on stage include:- Parkash Premi as Sutradhaar, Vipan Upadhaya as Memna, Raj Kumar Sanotra as Bhediya, Jagdeep Dubey as Buddha and Ved Madhotra as Chucha.
On backstage, Vishal Baria designed lights, Sunil Loona handled Music and sound, Jagdeep Dubey as Play-back singer, Make-up was done by Vipan Upadhaya, Stage setting and costumes by Raj Kumar Samnotra and Ved Madhotra.
