LUCKNOW, March 26 : As part of the 5-day media tour organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the media delegation from Jammu today visited Badi Garhi village in Malihabad block of the Lucknow district.
The delegation met a group of local women artisans engaged in Chikankari – Lucknow’s famed traditional hand embroidery art.
They watched in awe as the magical hands by meticulous needlework transformed light fabric into a delicate art form widely cherished for its elegance.
Bimla Rathore, the master artisan who runs a homebased centre to train local women and provide them work told the team that she has trained over 500 women and provides regular work to around 10 women in the village.
The women earn between 1200 to 1500 rupees per finished product.
Each woman on an average devotes four hours daily to the artwok in addition to attending to domestic chores and farm work.
Many artisans especially women are recieving assistance from different government departments for upskilling, setting up of vocational centres.
Bimla informed that she is a beneficiary of Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana(PMMY) – a flagship scheme of Government of India which facilitates micro credit up to Rs. 20 lakhs to income generating micro enterprises engaged in the non farm sector.
The artisans who had undergone 15 days training informed the press delegation that they received 250 rupees per day as a stipend and Bimla as a trainer gets ten thousand rupees for training the batch.
The delegation also visited the Asafi Imambara popularly known as Bara Imambara of Lucknow – an Archaeological Survey of India protected iconic monument.
The team was briefed about the history of the 18th century monument and its significance to the cultural heritage of the city.
They also experienced the complicated entanglement of Bhool Bhulaiyaa – a series of labyrinths in the monument.
Later the team visited Kakori Shaheed Samark and paid rich tributes to the heroes of the 1925 Kakori Train Action – considered as a watershed moment in the revolutionary phase of the freedom struggle of India.
