Mayor failed to arrange General House Meeting: Councilors

JAMMU, Oct 11: Independent and Congress Councilors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) here today staged a protest demonstration against the alleged failure of the Mayor to arrange General House Meeting (GHM).
The protesters claimed that non-conduction of GHM is a violation of the provisions of Municipal Corporation Act.
It is pertinent to mention here that JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta adjourned the GHM on September 6 without announcing the date of next meeting.
They demanded that GHM should be conducted at an earliest and said that a deputation of 19 Councilors had met JMC Commissioner and Secretary in this regard.
The protesting Councilors further demanded release of funds for developmental activities, adequate number of Safai Karamcharis for ensuring proper cleanliness in the city and empowerment of JMC’s Standing Committees.
They also raised the issue of scarcity of water and unscheduled power cuts and said that newly created JMC Wards lack facilities.
The protesting Councilors also demanded allotment of funds for emergency works, provision of dispensary in each JMC Ward, sanction of at least 100 pension cases per Ward and facilities to Safai Karamcharis.
They said that there is shortage of Linemen & Helpers and demanded equal facilities to all the Councilors and fixing of responsibility for quality of works.
The protesting Councilors included Dwarka Choudhary, Vijay Choudhary, Sham Lal Basson, Ashok Singh Manhas, Gourav Chopra, Prof. Youdhvir Singh, Rajni Bala, Kamal Singh, Inder Singh Sudan, Bhanu Mahajan, Anita Sharma, Pritam Singh, Amit Gupta, Sucha Singh, Sandhya Gupta, Shamma Akhtar, Sobat Ali, Anu Bali, Ritu Choudhary, Jadish Sharma, Rashpal Bhardwaj, Ghar Singh, Rani Devi, Rama Devi, Charanjeet Kour, Mohi-ud-Din and Gurmeet Kour Randhawa.
