JAMMU, May 10: Mayoites got the better of Shangrillians in the opening match of the friendly Spirit of Sports Cricket Series, being organised by Country Cricket Club at Country Cricket Stadium, Gharota, near here.
The event is an initiative of former Ranji Trophy Player Sandeep Singh (Sunny), aiming at popularising the benefits of sports and outdoor activity among all segments of the society. Earlier, batting first, Shangrillians scored a decent total of 101 runs in 12 overs. Swastik Sharma top scored with 24 runs, while Agastya Sharma contributed 22 runs to the total. Neeraj and Vikrant Sharma contributed 10 runs each, while Kuldeep Gupta and Priyamvada chipped in with 4 runs each.
From Mayoites XI, Montek Singh bagged 2 wickets in his 2 overs, while Vedant Kochhar claimed one and Priyamvada was run out. Amogh Rohmetra, Vedant Handa, Anant Rohmetra and Marukh Mahajan also did their best to control the runs, besides leaving no stone unturned in holding on to brilliant catches in the outfield.
In reply, Mayoites surpassed the target by losing 5 wickets, thus won the match by 5 wickets. Vedant Kochhar, skipper of Mayoites top scored with 28 runs, while Amogh Rohmetra contributed unbeaten 25 runs to the total. Marukh Mahajan and Anant Rohmetra also scored 15 and 12 runs respectively. Neeraj and Kuldeep Gupta shared one wicket each.
Vedant Kochhar was declared as the man of the match for his fabulous batting display, while Montek Singh was adjudged as the best bowler.
