A large number of protesters assembled at the Raghunath Mandir, Katra, and unanimously voiced their opposition to the project. The protest march began from Raghunath Mandir, passed through the main bazaar of Katra, and culminated at Fawwara Chowk.
Amid strong public anger, protesters raised slogans against MLA Katra and burnt his effigy accusing him of attempting to divide the people of Katra by influencing certain sections of society.
Addressing the gathering, Sangarsh Samiti members asserted that the ropeway project would severely diminish the religious and spiritual significance of the traditional pilgrimage. They emphasized that the yatra is not merely a journey but a sacred spiritual experience which they believe will be adversely affected if the ropeway is implemented.
Later, the protesters attempted to march towards the MLA’s office. However, police personnel intervened and stopped the march to prevent any untoward incident. Sangarsh Samiti members reiterated their resolve to continue the agitation until the proposed ropeway project is shelved.
