Massive protest in Udhampur against Govt’s anti-people policies

UDHAMPUR, Jan 15: Senior leader, Pawan Khajuria led a major protest today at busy Venus Chowk here against the anti-people policies of the Jammu and Kashmir UT Government. During the demonstration, an effigy of NC Government was torched to express deep anger towards the administration.
Addressing the protestors, Pawan Khajuria stated that the Government has completely forgotten the promises made in its election manifesto, and cheated the public. He criticized the lack of effective steps for the development of the Jammu division, noting that severe unemployment is forcing local youth to migrate to other states for work.
Healthcare services are reportedly in a dismal state, forcing residents to seek medical treatment outside the region. Expressing concern over power crisis in Jammu region especially in Udhampur, he said despite promises of free electricity, the region is facing heavy power cuts, which are particularly affecting students during exams. Additionally, clean drinking water remains unavailable in many areas after heavy rains caused destruction.
The Government was accused of discriminatory politics. Khajuria cited the Chief Minister’s claim that IITs and IIMs were opened only in Jammu and not Kashmir as a shameful and divisive statement.
Pawan Khajuria called for a special development package for the Jammu division, emphasizing that “hollow speeches and double politics” will not benefit the public. He urged the Government to prioritize, increasing employment opportunities, strengthening health services, improving the quality of education and fixing policy shortcomings and fulfilling promises made to the residents.
He also appealed to elected representatives from the Jammu division to raise their voices in the Assembly and work honestly to fulfill the promises made to the people.
Several senior leaders and activists, including Somraj, Bansi Lal, Sarpanch Mukund Lal, Rajkumar Bucha, and many others, were present at the occasion.
