REASI, June 8: A major forest fire broke out in the Grah Morh and Marhi forest belt, located behind the Reasi Railway Station, causing extensive damage to trees and other forest resources.
The blaze, which engulfed several acres of forest land, is rapidly spreading, posing a grave threat to nearby residential areas including Jyotipuram and critical railway infrastructure.
Local residents reported that the fire, fueled by dry vegetation was advancing quickly and could soon reach populated zones if not brought under control.
The district administration has sounded an alert and mobilized fire and Forest Department teams to contain the flames. Efforts were underway to douse the fire and prevent it from causing further damage.
Meanwhile, another forest fire was reported in the Bhaga area along the Reasi-Katra railway track. This blaze is also spreading rapidly, further stretching the resources of emergency response teams.
According to Forest officials, this area is quite far away from Railway Bridge and Jyoti Puram Colony. More than 15 field staff under the supervision of Block Officer are putting efforts to douse it and most probably it will be controlled tonight only, they said, adding that fire lines have already been created so that no damage could happen to Railway Bridge or any residential area.
