NEW DELHI, Aug 1:
Despite lockout at its Manesar plant, the country’s largest carmaker Maruti suzuki India (MSI) today reported a 9.2 per cent increase in sales for the month of July at 82,234 units as against 75,300 units in the same month last year.
MSI had declared a lockout on June 21 at its Manesar plant following a violent clash in which more than 100 officials were injured and also claimed the life of a senior HR manager.
It had declared a lockout at the plant till a thorough investigation into the causes of the incident is complete and corrective measures to stop the recurrence of such incidences in future are put in place.
In a statement released here the company said its domestic sales during the month has increased by 6.8 per cent at 71,024 units, as compared to 66,504 units in July last year.
Exports during the month increased by 27.4 per cent to 11,210 units in July, 2012 as compared to 8,796 units in July, 2011.
The company said its sales were driven mostly by its compact sedan Dzire, which clocked 11,413 units, posting nearly a four-fold increase.
However, sales of small cars, including the M800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon R, declined by 23.7 per cent to 28,998 units.
The company said it has sold 15,759 units of Swift, Estilo and Ritz in the reported month, registering an increase of 73.2 per cent from last year, it added.
Its mid-sized sedan SX4 sales declined heavily by 70.5 per cent to 679 units in the month, it added.
The comapny said it has managed to sell just two units of the luxury Kizashi sedan in the reported month. (UNI)
