KISHTWAR, Jan 1: A devastating fire hit the remote village Thechna in Dachhan area of mountainous Kishtwar district this evening inflicting massive damage to several residential houses.
Sources informed that the fire initially broke out in one house and as most of the houses in the hamlet were inter-connected wall-to-wall, it quickly spread to other houses too.
Though after a big struggle the fire was put-off but by then it had completely gutted many houses and the things kept inside the fire hit houses were destroyed completely.
However, there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the incident.
Civilians, cops and troops of Rashtriya Rifles deployed in the area made strenuous efforts to control the fire. Locals rued that it took fire tenders hours to reach the spot from Kishtwar.
Initially, MLA Padder-Nagseni, Sunil Sharma said that some 5-6 houses were in the grip of fire and the locals were trying to douse the flames manually along with the help of Army, cops and others.
He also said that relief compensation for the affected people will be look into tomorrow.
DC Kishtwar, Pankaj Sharma said about 5 houses were fully burnt in fire.
He quoted reports to say that a LPG cylinder blast triggered the fire which had been largely brought under the control and Aapda Mitra were also pressed into service.
However, Asif, Sarpanch of the fire hit village claimed that many houses were gutted in the blaze.
