BHADERWAH, Feb 22: Cutting across religious and social lines, prominent organisations and members of the civil society here today met at Seri Bazaar and flayed the continued regional discrimination.
The meeting witnessed participation from Anjuman-e-Islamia Bhaderwah, Sanatan Dharam Sabha Bhaderwah, various NGOs, traders, youth representatives and citizens from different sections of the society and all called for unity and a decisive course of action for the issues being faced by the region.
The key issues highlighted were uncertainty surrounding the local degree college, discontinuing of B. Ed classes from the University Campus Bhaderwah and non-availability of adequate doctors at SDH Bhaderwah.
Anjuman-e-Islamia president, Riaz Najar expressed serious concern over the alleged step-motherly treatment with Bhaderwah in matters of development, education and institutional support.
Referring to the college-related issues and the discontinuation of B. Ed classes, he said the youth of Bhaderwah were being deprived of academic opportunities.
He also raised concern over the shortage of doctors at SDH Bhadarwah and termed it grave injustice with the patients in a hilly region.
Members of Sanatan Dharam Sabha echoed similar concern asserting that the issues confronting Bhaderwah were concern of the entire population. They stressed that access to quality education and healthcare is a basic right and must not be compromised.
Chairman of Youth Action Committee, Naseer Mehboob, strongly criticised the systematic neglect and warned that continued inaction could compel people to intensify their agitation.
Former SDM, Ravi Thakur urged the administration to engage in constructive dialogue and address the grievances without any delay.
After detailed deliberations, the meeting resolved to wait for a formal response from the concerned authorities.
The gathering resolved that if no satisfactory action is taken on the college issue, restoration of B. Ed classes and strengthening of healthcare services at SDH Bhaderwah, then a large scale agitation will be launched in the coming days.
