Manohar for immediate action to address flood situation

KATHUA, Aug 31: Former Minister Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has expressed deep concern over the current situation arising due to heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides in Jammu province.
He has urged the LG Administration, and Central Government to take immediate steps on a war footing level to restore roads, power supply, and water supply in the affected areas.
Sharma has demanded that the Government must restore National Highways, State Highways, and rural link roads, provide safe shelter and shift affected families to safe locations; arrange adequate compensation, relief, food, and daily consumable items to the affected families.
He further demanded deployment of a dedicated expert team to assess losses of affected families, identify land and allot it to houseless and landless affected families. Sharma has demanded a special package for flood-affected areas of Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar districts in Jammu province.
Sharma expressed deep anguish against the BJP Government at the Centre for not taking keen interest in visiting flood-affected areas and providing assistance to Jammu province. He has criticized the Government for leaving the people of Jammu province at the mercy of God. Sharma demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation to victims of each family, Rs 10-20 lakh compensation for houses completely damaged, compensation for losses of properties as per assessment made by authorities. Sharma has emphasized the need for complete rehabilitation of affected families, including compensation for losses of properties and land due to landslides and flash floods.
He said the Government must take immediate action to provide relief and support to those affected by the floods. The Government must prioritize the needs of the affected families and take concrete steps to prevent future disasters.
