MENDHAR, July 30: The people from Nar-Mankote area of Mendhar Sub division in Poonch, staged a protest against Roads and Buildings (R&B) and Forest Departments for failing to complete the construction of 300-metres stretch of Nar-Mankote road.
Reports said that the local residents blocked newly constructed bridge at Mankot. They alleged that the work on the bridge was completed but bridge was not connected to several LoC villages. A population of over 10,000 souls of this belt of Mankote tehsil was left to suffer.
“We are baffled by the indifferent attitude shown by R&B and Forest Department as with the opening of 300 mtrs road people from Mankote-bridge to Thamloate, Sagra, Mankote, Dabraj, Tie etc will be benefited.
The people of the area led by Ch Aman Ullah , Azam Choudhary, Manhor Singh and others held strong protest and raised slogans against Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) and Forest Department officials from Mendhar and Poonch. They said the people living along LoC in Mankote sector of Mendhar sub division are not only victims of Pakistan firing but also of the Government apathy.
In Nar- Mankote area, even after 70 years a road has not been constructed. People have to carry the sick and also the victims of cross border firing on shoulders for miles to the nearby connecting road for reaching hospital. Villagers demanded the intervention of the Governor and his Advisor in this connection.
Tehsildar Mankote later arrived there and pacified the protesters with the assurance that their genuine demand would be looked into by the higher authorities.
