AIZWAL, Jan 1: The first baby of 2025 in Aizawl city was born at 12:03 am on New Year’s Day at the government-run Civil Hospital.
The baby boy’s arrival was followed by another boy born at 12:35 am at the Presbyterian Synod Hospital in Durtlang, on Aizawl’s northern outskirts, hospital sources reported on Wednesday.
Between 3 pm to 7 am on New Year’s Day, Aizawl hospitals recorded five fatalities, while 36 babies were born during the same period.
Meanwhile, the city’s hospitals treated several cases linked to New Year celebrations. The Civil Hospital reported 11 accident-related admissions, including four individuals with fractures.
As Aizawl residents bid farewell to 2024 and welcomed 2025, law enforcement faced a relatively eventful night. Police detained 21 individuals at four stations across Mizoram, with 12 cases (57.14%) linked to drunkenness, including one for driving under the influence. However, six police stations across the state reported no arrests or detentions during the celebrations.
While the New Year’s festivities brought joy to many with the birth of new lives, it also served as a reminder of the challenges that accompany large-scale celebrations, as authorities worked to ensure public safety.
