JAMMU, Nov 17: Zahid Naseem Manhas, Commandant, SDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu, today inaugurated a weeklong training programme on “capacity building and training of women as ‘Aapda Sakhi’ for Disaster Management” here at the Central Training Institute (CTI) HG/CD, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
He was accompanied by Snober Jameel, Deputy Secretary to the Government, Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, J&K, who happens to be the Nodal Officer of the programme, and Principal CTI HG/CD Jammu, DySP Trainings, incharge Trainings, SDRF Second Battalion, Jammu.
During the inaugural session, the Commandant highlighted the aims and objectives of the Aapda Sakhi Programme, a specialised initiative of Government of India to train women volunteers as community first responders during disasters.
He stressed that the programme empowers women to provide immediate support in disaster-affected areas.
The initiative, part of an important component of the Aapda Mitra Scheme of DMRRR J&K, has been creating a trained volunteer force across the region equipped with essential skills in disaster response, coordination, and management.
DySPs SDRF 2nd Battalion Jammu, Area Commandants of Home Guards, and Deputy Controllers, Civil Defence, Jammu, Udhampur, Samba and Kathua were also present on the ocassion.
CD Wardens/Volunteers, NCC cadets of 4th and 8th NCC Battalions, ASHA workers, Health Department staff, Anganwadi workers, Panchayat Secretaries, and RDD workers participated in the training programme.
