Man murdered over old enmity; four held

JAMMU, Mar 3: A man died after he was violently assaulted by four individuals over an old enmity at his residence in Shakti Nagar area here on February 2, prompting a swift response from the police who arrested the suspects within hours.
Quoting the First Information Report (FIR) filed by Sanjay Kumar, the son of the victim Madan Lal, a police official said the accused-identified as Ashok Kumar, Sahil Badiyal, Aman Badiyal, and Rishi-entered their home around 7:30 Pm with intentions to kill.
According to him, the accused, known to them, reportedly attacked both Sanjay and Madan Lal over an old enmity with baseball bats and sticks, resulting in serious injuries to Madan Lal.
The assailants then allegedly threw him from the rooftop of their house, leading to life-threatening injuries, the police official said quoting the FIR.
He said Madan Lal was taken to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu where he succumbed to his injuries.
Initially, the police registered the case under sections 333, 109, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sahita (BNSS), the police official said, adding, however, following the victim’s death, the charges were upgraded to murder, and all four accused were arrested within six hours of the incident.
The police official further said that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bakshi Nagar has secured the crime scene with the help of the FSL and Crime team to collect tangible evidence.
The crime scene was documented using video technology, in compliance with Section 105 of BNSS, and witness statements were recorded on-site, he said.
Further investigation into the case is underway, added the police official.
