Man knocked to death by police vehicle

JAMMU, June 10: A 42-year-man was today knocked to death by a police vehicle at Vikram Chowk, in city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, a pedestrian identified as Vijay Kumar son of Sewa Ram, a resident of Kanachak, received serious injuries after a police vehicle bearing registration number JK02AD-8454, hit him at Vikram Chowk, this morning.
He said that the seriously injured Vijay was immediately taken to District Police Line Hospital by the Constable Mohd Irfan (Belt No 509/IRP 17 Bn) son of Abdul Hamid, a resident of Rajouri, who was driving the vehicle involved in the accident.
“However, in view of serious condition, Vijay was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he was declared as brought dead by the doctors”, the spokesman said, adding after completing all medico-legal formalities the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
“A case in this connection was registered at police station Gandhi Nagar and the driver of the police vehicle involved in the mishap arrested”, he further added.
