KISHTWAR, Mar 26: A 50-year-old man died after a clash broke out between two groups during a community panchayat convened to resolve a dispute in the Pathernaki area of Kishtwar district today.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Mohammad Yusuf, a resident of Pathernaki.
According to reports, the dispute had originated from a fight during a marriage ceremony a few days ago between two families.
In an effort to amicably resolve the issue, locals organized a community panchayat in which members of both sides participated, reports said.
However, they said, during the proceedings, a heated argument allegedly escalated into a physical clash.
“Amid the chaos, Mohammad Shafi fell unconscious. He was immediately rushed to District Hospital Kishtwar, where doctors declared him brought dead,” reports said.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased have alleged that Mohammad Shafi was killed by members of the rival group and have submitted a written complaint to the police naming several persons.
Acting on the complaint, police have registered an FIR at Police Station Kishtwar and initiated an investigation into the matter.
The body was handed over to the family after completion of post-mortem examination.
