SRINAGAR, May 24: A 34-year-old patient died today due to alleged medical negligence at Paras Hospital here, prompting authorities to initiate a probe.
The patient’s family members staged a protest outside the hospital premises, alleging that their relative died because of doctors’ negligence, demanding accountability and urging authorities to intervene.
They said the patient, Waseem Ahmed Pathan, a resident of Bilal Colony, Pampore, was admitted to the hospital eight days ago for treatment of an intestinal infection and died in the morning.
“We paid Rs 2.5 lakhs for the treatment, but despite that, the doctors failed to provide proper care, which led to his death,” the family stated.
Relatives mentioned that Waseem underwent cyst removal surgery a few days earlier and was discharged, but when he experienced pain the following day, they returned him to the hospital.
“Waseem had to undergo another surgery because, according to him, the doctors injured his intestine during the first surgery,” they said, adding, “This is not just negligence; this is murder.”
The protesters demanded an immediate inquiry and swift action against the doctor involved.
Meanwhile, district health authorities here told Excelsior that an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances and cause of death.
We have carried out a preliminary probe and are currently collecting additional evidence; the preliminary report suggests that blood had accumulated inside the body, leading to hypovolemic shock and septicaemia,” officials said.
Following the protest, the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag cancelled the permission granted to Paras Hospital to organize a medical camp at the Meeting Hall of MC Kokernag, scheduled for May 26, 2025.
