SRINAGAR, Dec 10: A 36-year-old man died today at the District Hospital Handwara, allegedly due to medical negligence.
The patient, identified as Abdul Hamid Sofi, a resident of Arampora Drugmulla, was brought to the hospital after complaining of chest pain, according to the doctors.
The doctors stated that the patient was attended to and underwent the necessary tests. However, the family alleged that the hospital staff was not present and that they were mistreated.

“They pushed us around, and when the patient collapsed, they claimed he was acting. The person who attended to our patient wasn’t even a doctor; the staff was absent,” the family alleged.

Hospital authorities, detailing the case, said the patient reported to the hospital at 6:48 am and was attended to by doctors upon arrival.
“As he complained of chest pain, an ECG was conducted at 6:53 am, which turned out to be normal. He was kept under observation and provided the necessary treatment,” the hospital administration stated.
According to the doctors, a Trop-T test was also conducted, which returned negative. “A chest X-ray was performed, and the doctors duly attended to him,” they added.
The hospital authorities said the patient collapsed at 7:30 am, after which resuscitation attempts were made. “Unfortunately, he died,” they said.
In response to the family’s allegations, the hospital authorities stated that CCTV footage, reviewed in the presence of the Tehsildar, disproved the claims.
“We will form a committee, and a report will be submitted to ascertain the cause of death,” the hospital administration said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara ordered an inquiry to determine the circumstances leading to the man’s death due to the alleged medical negligence.
In this regard, a three-member committee, headed by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Kupwara, along with two doctors, has been formed. The committee has been tasked with submitting its findings and recommendations within seven days.
“In order to ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the death of the patient, it has become imperative to initiate an inquiry into the incident,” read an official order.
