Man dies, 8 injured in Ring Road mishap

JAMMU, Dec 29: One person was killed and eight others sustained injuries today after a speeding Punjab Roadways bus rammed into a crane near the Toll Plaza on Ring Road.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 1:30 PM at village Dondpur on Ring Road, close to the Toll Plaza, where work was underway for the installation of CCTV cameras. The task was being carried out by a private company engaged by the National Highways Authority of India.
The impact of the collision was severe. A 27-year-old man, identified as Imran, an employee of the private firm, was on top of the crane fixing CCTV cameras when the bus struck the vehicle. He fell down due to the force of the collision and died on the spot.
In addition to the fatality, around eight passengers travelling in the bus were injured in the mishap. The injured were identified as Anchal Singh (22) of Tikri, Udhampur; Amit Kumar (36) of Kunjwani; Riya (21) of Roopnagar; Arshi Dhar (21) of Bohri, Talab Tillo; Neha (26) of Sunderbani; Parshant Singh (28) of Miran Sahib; Jeet Singh (51) of Basantpur; and Vikram Kumar (32) of Sunderbani.
The body of the deceased along with all the injured persons was shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Bishnah. Later, one of the injured, Parshant Singh, was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, Bishnah Police arrested the driver and conductor of the Punjab Roadways bus involved in the tragic incident and registered a case under relevant sections of law. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
