JAMMU, Dec 17: Police have booked a man for allegedly raping a divorced woman on the false promise of marriage in the Janipur area here today.
The accused has been identified as Manjeet Kumar, a resident of Bhaderwah, who runs a medical shop in his hometown.
He has been booked in case FIR number 196/2025 under Sections 69, 88 and 89 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Janipur, a police official said.
According to him, the accused came into contact with the complainant, also a resident of Bhaderwah and presently living in Jammu, during 2018-19. The woman had obtained a divorce in 2014.
The official said the accused allegedly maintained physical relations with the woman several times on the pretext of marrying her, but failed to do so.
Following the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered and further investigation is underway, he said.
Meanwhile, the police official said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused.
