UDHAMPUR, Dec 26: Panic gripped Panchari area of District Udhampur after a bear attacked middle- aged man at village Janori in Tehsil Panchari.
The victim, identified as Govind Ram (50), son of Jagan Nath, resident of Janori, was attacked by the bear when he was working in his farm. Before some villagers could come to his rescue, the bear injured him and fled.
The injured man was shifted to PHC Panchari where doctors referred him to Command Hospital Udhampur for advanced treatment.
Concerned about their safety and cattle, the villagers have also reported the matter to the police and Wildlife Department officials. They appealed the Wildlife Conservation Department officials and district administration to capture the beast or take appropriate action to evict it to forest area.
