JAMMU, July 3: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has strongly criticized the PDP-BJP alliance Government for sabotage of the Land Laws (Amendment) Bill 2016, which was referred it to the Select Committee by the Government.
Terming the State Government’s undemocratic sabotage of the Land Laws (Amendment) Bill as a dent to the dignity and honour of the State Legislature, Vikram Malhotra, General Secretary, JKPCC, urged upon the Governor, N. N. Vohra to make necessary interventions to uphold the dignity of the Constitution of the State and to impress upon the State Government to safeguard the interests of the permanent residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
Malhotra was addressing one-day Congress Workers’ Convention here at DBN Ground in Mubarak Mandi, today.
He also lashed out at the PDP-BJP coalition Government for passing the Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill without taking into confidence the opposition including Congress and the National Conference in the House.
“The Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill was an overt attempt to weaken the system by scuttling the democratic principles and introducing the indirect process of the election of the Sarpanch, making a window for coercion, corruption and malpractices to manipulate the elections.”
The Congress leader urged the Governor to return the Bill for reconsideration.
“While thousands of daily wagers, Anganwadi workers and helpers, besides, consolidated workers are still continuing with their agitations for seeking release of their salaries pending for last several months, the Government didn’t pay heed to them and announced the hike in salaries of the legislators, which is a gross injustice with the suffering employees of various departments,” Vikram Malhotra alleged.
Congress leader also played the Government for its failure to rein in the anti-national elements in Kashmir valley, where supporters of ISIS continue to raise flags of the terrorist organization quite frequently.
On the occasion, Vikram Malhotra distributed relief cheques among widows and old age persons including pension cases.
While speaking on the occasion, Anil Chopra, President, District Congress Committee, Jammu Urban, also flayed the PDP-BJP Government for its failure on all fronts.
“This Government has completely failed to address the most genuine issues of people including shortage of ration, drinking water and erratic power supply,” he added.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Balbir Singh, Rani Devi, Sunny, Gourav, Anand Gandotra, Dr. Raji, Kala, Bobby Kohli, Raj Singh, Baru Sharma, Sanjeev Singh, Shallu, Yash Paul Singh, Ajay Khanna and others.
