Malaysia’s May factory output up 3.4 pct on year, beats forecast

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11:  Malaysia’s industrial  production in May rose to 3.4 percent from a year earlier, data from the Statistics Department showed on Thursday.
The rise beat a Reuters poll of 16 economists which had forecast factory output to edge up 1.7 percent, slowing from a surprise 4.7 percent surge in April as weak external demand and lower commodity prices hits the country’s export-oriented industries.
April’s factory output was revised to 4.6 percent year-on-year from 4.7 percent previously.
