JAMMU, Nov 18: Sainik Samaj Party (SSP) has expressed concern and anguish over Doordarshan (DD) Jammu being defunct.
In a handout Colonel S.S Pathania (retired), SSP president said that DD Jammu was inaugurated in 1998 and crores of rupees have been spent on creation of this huge infrastructure.
“After 23 years of its inception DD Jammu is inactive, amply demonstrating indifference and apathy of successive Governments, which remained in power in the erstwhile J&K State and now UT,” he maintained.
The SSP president said, while DD Jammu has no Satellite Channel to telecast, DD Kashir can broadcast its programmes to more than 120 countries.
He also said that it is sheer discrimination with Jammu region and people of PoK in Muzzarabad, Mirpur and Kotli do not understand Kashmiri language and are at ease with Dogri language, hence it justifies that Dogri channel will help immensely to reach out to the people of PoK in terms of perception management and formulation of opinion.
Col. Pathania said a fully functional DD Jammu will also provide numerous jobs to locals, helping in mitigation of unemployment and he urged J&K LG to consider the aspirations and demand of people of Jammu region without any delay.
