SRINAGAR, Nov 3: In a solemn and poignant ceremony held at Badami Bagh Cantonment, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Colonel, Rajesh Kalia, paid rich tributes to Late Major P Purushottam and five other soldiers of Public Relations Office, Ministry of Defence, who died Fidayeen attack on this day in 1999.
A defence spokesman said Late Major P Purushottam, who was posted as PRO (Defence) along with five of his comrades fought militants who had launched a Fidayeen attack on his office in the evening hours of November 3, 1999.
“Having been engaged in a hand to hand fight with the militants, he and his colleagues made the supreme sacrifice of their lives while trying to save media persons,” said the spokesman. On this occasion, wreaths were laid on behalf of Nitin Wakankar, the Additional Director General (Media and Communication), Directorate of Public Relations (DPR), Ministry of Defence and media fraternity at the memorial in Public Relations Office, Srinagar.
