SRINAGAR, Apr 2: The first woman medical officer deployed at the world’s highest battleground, Siachen, Major Dr. Geetika Koul, was felicitated today during the alumni meet of Sharda University.

The event, held at SKICC, was attended by LG Manoj Sinha, Minister Sakeena Itoo, and various dignitaries, including alumni of the university currently serving in different professions.
Speaking with reporters on the occasion, Dr. Koul termed the opportunity to serve the nation at Siachen as a moment of pride not only for her but also for her family and people across India.
“Throughout, I have trusted my training, and when our pre-induction training is held, there is no distinction between being male or female. I have served the nation at the highest battleground, and that’s a great achievement,” she said.
Earlier, while addressing the gathering, Dr. Koul said that the university shaped her into a resilient doctor and laid the foundation for her journey as a soldier.
“My time at the university was more than just academic learning. It was about resilience, discipline, and excellence,” she said.
She added that becoming the first woman medical officer deployed at the world’s highest battleground, Siachen, was not just a personal testimony but a testament to her strength, training, dedication, and mentorship.
“I owe my gratitude to my mentors for equipping me with the knowledge of medicine and the spirit of serving my nation. I reaffirm my commitment to both,” she added.
