Major hike in capex budget of Edu, Health sectors: CEC

LEH, June 13: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Leh Gyal P Wangyal today said that there is a major hike in capex budget of LAHDC Leh in key sectors like Education and Health for the financial year 2020-21.
Addressed a press conference at Council Secretariat Leh in which he shared details of the Rs 232 crore capex budget of LAHDC, Wangyal said that as compared to last year’s capex budget of Rs 57.52 crore, this year’s capex budget is Rs 232.43 crore which is four times more than the budget of last year. “Some key sectors got a major jump in allocation of funds including Education with a 500% hike as Rs 15 crore was approved this year as compared to Rs 3 crore of last year while Health sector saw a hike of 440 % with Rs 12 crore allocated this year as compared to Rs 2.7 crore of last year,” the CEC added.
The CEC further highlighted that about Rs 500 crore Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI) of Ladakh has been sanctioned under Special Development Package 2020-21 initiated by the LAHDC, Leh under which both Leh and Kargil district will get equal share in achieving the aim of converting Ladakh into an organic region by 2025.
“Now the people of Ladakh can dream speedy development and for that there will be no shortage of funds,” said Wangyal and added that smooth flow of funds will lead Ladakh in the golden era of development in every sphere of life. “Ladakh used to get only 2% share of budget during the erstwhile J&K Government but now the people of Ladakh can dream big,” quipped Wangyal.
He said now the concern of the Council is to ensure complete utilization of funds and people must extend their utmost cooperation to executing agencies in completion of works.
Meanwhile, CEC along with Councillor Igoo Tsering Paldan inspected Upshi screening point established at toll post Upshi where all inbound passengers and vehicles coming from Manali road are being screened.
Sarpanch Shara Sonam Thardos and Sarpanch Gya-Meru Tsering Dawa were also present during the visit of CEC.
SDM Kharu A G Zargar and Incharge Upshi Screening Point Dr Tsering Lamchung briefed CEC about the screening and registration process of the passengers and vehicles. CEC was informed that till date about 1409 Tankers/Trucks, 65 LMV, 18 buses and 527 passengers have crossed Upshi screening point.
CEC on behalf of LAHDC Leh, handed over sanitizers, gloves and masks to corona warriors at Upshi screening point and thanked them for working tirelessly in combating COVID-19. CEC stressed Corona warriors to ensure strict screening of vehicles and passengers so that no suspected person enters Leh via Upshi saying that Leh is already dealing with sudden rise in COVID-19 cases.
