RAJOURI, Nov 3: In order to lodge their protest against the installation of smart meters, the members of Mahila Congress Committee staged a rally here today.
The rally was taken out under the leadership of district General Secretary Ruksana Kouser and witnessed participation from a large number of women and senior Mahila Congress leaders, including Perveen Kouser, state General Secretary, along with Zabida and Amrit Begum.
The protestors raised strong slogans against the installation of smart meters in residential areas, terming the move as an unnecessary burden on poor and middle-class families.
They also criticized the National Conference and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing them of failing to fulfill their earlier promises to the people.
Addressing the media, Ruksana Kouser said, “We will continue our protest and will not allow the installation of smart meters in our homes. These meters have become a burden on poor families and the
NC Government has failed to fulfill the promises made with the people.”
It was also announced by the Mahila Congress leaders that the agitation would continue until the government withdraws its decision to install smart meters.
