ANANTNAG, Aug 2: To celebrate Shravan Purnima with religious fervour and gaiety, the Vatasta Dev Sathan Prabandhak Committee led by Madsudan Bhat, Moti Lal Koul and Piyare Lal organized a Maya Yagya at Omoh temple in Verinag, near here today.
The yagya began with a first ‘suhakar’ yesterday evening and culminated today with a ‘Puran Ahuti’, which was followed a Maha Bhog.
Thousands of devotees drawn from all over the State, especially Kashmiri Pandits participated in the yagya and had a ‘darshan’ of unique incarnation of Lord Shiva.
Bhajan-Kirtan was held on the occasion which smacked an ecstatic, blissful feeling among all of them.
Chhabeels were also organized by the Committee, while the security arrangement was almost to a perfection.
Senior Congress leader and MLA Doru, Anantnag, visited the venue and interacted with Pandits on the occasion. He assured all cooperation and help with regard to establishment of this old shrine in the Valley.
It may be recalled that it was for the first time in last 23 years, after the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits that a Maha Yagya was organized at this sacred place.
Meanwhile, thousands of devotees performed ‘darshan’ of famous temple at Thajiwara in Bijbehara, popularly known as ‘Prachin Amarnath’, to celebrate ‘Shravan Purnima’ with fervour. The devotees performed Bhajan-Kirtan and the ladies had a session of Kashmiri ‘Leelas’ on the occasion.
