Maha becomes 1st state in country to launch ‘Mobile Forensic Van’ for crime detection

MUMBAI, Jan 27: Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to start ‘Mobile Forensic Van’ facility for crime detection, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Monday.
He was speaking on the occasion of flagging off Mobile Forensic Van by the him at Sahyadri Guest House here.
As the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023 has mandated the use of forensic evidence for offences punishable by seven or more, a major part of these reforms has been the availability of ‘Mobile Forensic Vans’ in Maharashtra, he said.
The Chief Minister further said that a total of 259 mobile forensic vans will be started in the state, out of which 21 fully equipped vans have been commissioned, he informed.
The van will be useful in providing forensic assistance in solving crimes, collecting and analysing evidence, he said.
This van will be able to collect blood, DNA samples and evidence needed in rape cases, he pointed.
Along with scientific experts and support staff, the van will have special forensic kits for detection of explosives and cyber crimes as well as CCTV, he said and stated that this will make the evidence gathering process more efficient and accurate.
These vans will be connected with the concerned police station so that they will be able to inform the police station about evidence collected by the relevant crime officers, he informed.
This will enable better coordination between the investigating agencies and forensic experts, as a result, no one will be able to save the accused from punishment by destroying or tampering with the evidence, he added.
This will not only instill fear in the minds of criminals but also will definitely increase the rate of proving crimes, asserted Fadnavis.
