RAJOURI, June 8: Veteran Congress leader and former MP, Madan Lal Sharma, today visited various migrant camps in Nowshera and met with the cross border firing and shelling affected people.
Accompanied by a battery of local congress leaders from Nowshera, Sunderbani and Rajouri, Sharma gave a patient hearing to the people who raised various issues ranging from improper sanitation in the camps, lack of portable drinking water, low voltage and fear of break out of water born diseases.
People informed Sharma that many old age people and children are ailing and adequate health arrangement have not been made to cater the victims in the camp. They also demanded increase in ration and sugar scale and demanded ration on regular basis.
Many local Sarpanches and leaders demanded that the affected people be rehabilitated to some safer areas near Sunderbani. The former MP was also appraised that a four year girl died of a snake bite in the camp. The people demanded regular power supply for the protection of the children.
Madan Lal Sharma in his address apprised the people that during his tenure as MP he raised the issue of insurance of life, property and crops of the inhabitants of the border during consecutive budget sessions. He appealed the State and Central Government to provide 5 Marlas plot to each family at some safer place and one time provision of the construction cost.
He also demanded the insurance to life, crop and property of the border people. He also stressed for monthly financial assistance and ration for the people as was given to them in 2001. He also demanded the facilities for the migrants at par with other migrants in the State and demanded Chief Minister to direct Relief Commissioner, Divisional Commission and Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri for the same.
Sharma further demanded the construction of bunkers in border villages so that people can take refuge at the time of eventuality. He assured that the people of border areas are at their back and call.
