JAMMU, Sept 25: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and former MLA Bimla Luthra underscored the crucial role of women in the upcoming Panchayat and Local Bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing their active participation in governance and decision-making.
She was addressing a well-attended meeting at Sidhra (Ward Number 71), where she highlighted the need for greater political representation of women in J&K. The meeting was organized by Shama Akthar, former Corporator.
Luthra stated that although women constitute nearly 50% of the voting populace in J&K, their representation in governance continues to be neglected. She strongly criticized the previous Government, accusing it of failing to deliver on promises made for the welfare of women.
“However, women have high hopes from the present government led by Omar Abdullah, who has always championed their rights and upliftment. We need to ensure that women play a decisive role in governance and policy making,” she asserted.
Meanwhile, Bimla Luthra nominated Salma Begum as block president Sidhra women wing. Among others present were Joginder Kour (district president, Jammu urban women wing), Sapna Gill (block president, Jammu East women wing) and Baljeet Kour. Suggest some brief headlines for the news item.
