KARGIL, Aug 5: Ladakh Tribal Foundation (LTF) today distributed dry ration and blankets among flood affected people of Khawos.
The recent floods washed away dozens of houses and animals in the village, forcing people to living in temporary makeshift houses without food and shelter. Amid these times of uncertainty and chaos, LTF members along with volunteers assessed the ground situation and helped the needy by raising donations locally.
“It was a humanitarian approach rather than a formal one,” acknowledged Khadim Purgi, chairman of the NGO, Ladakh Tribal Foundation. He said as a social worker he believes that social service is above all professions.
Purgi said in early years of establishment of the NGO, its reach was limited to Kargil alone but with the passage of time, LTF has started working in whole Ladakh region and volunteers from different places of Ladakh continue to join the NGO.
He said the NGO identifies the widows and vulnerable sections of the area and provides them essential items and also financial aid in an organized manner.
